Where Are They Now?

The girls who sang on this album are all teenagers now, ranging from 14 to 19. About half of them are too old to live in the hostel. Some of them secured admission through testing to grades 11 and 12 in good, English medium schools. These girls are generally safe for now, living in a different Christian hostel. Some will graduate in April 2018. At this point they will be back at a crossroads, figuring out how to fund further education, how to get a job, or how to go back and live in the slum communities they are from. It will surely be a difficult time.

Some graduated after grade 10 and are trying to keep work to help support their families. Most of these girls are living back in their slums, again in difficult circumstances. Many are still high-risk for abuse, trafficking, and forced marriage. Some struggle to find jobs so they will be tempted to seek other ways to make money, as suggested by their families. So far, by God's grace, all are standing strong for him and holding onto the Biblical values they grew up learning, even in such dire circumstances. These girls still need much prayer and support. They continue to meet regularly with Vinita and others from Disha Foundation. However, more funds are needed to help these girls continue with their education and get on their own two feet. There are opportunities for tailoring or beautician courses if they have the funds. They come from nothing--extreme poverty and unsupportive families--and have very little help from anyone other than Disha Foundation.

The next batch of girls will finish Grade 10 in the spring, and yet another group will be faced with a difficult transition: stressful testing and hopes for admission into Grade 11, moving back to the slums with no direction, trying to get a job (which is extremely difficult as a young Indian girl), thrown into the dark relaties of the world after being well taken care of since the age of 5, for some.

It is difficult for the staff at the hostel and Disha Foundation to release these baby birds from the nest and hope they fly. Everyone is well aware of the big, dark world they face on the streets of New Delhi. They are doing everything they can to help these girls succeed and keep them on the right track. I am thankful for the seeds that have been planted in these girls' lives, and I know that He will continue to grow them in faith and give them the strength to do the good works He has prepared beforehand for them to do. He is raising up a new generation of girls who will be world changers for those around them.

The My God Will Hear Me album is available at many online stores and streaming services. All profits for purchased music goes to Disha Foundation to support the girls.
