Stand on the Word of God

Luke 4:1-13 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And He ate nothings during those days, and when they had ended, He was hungry. And the devil said to Him, "If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread." And Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'Man shall not live on bread alone.'"

And he led Him up and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said to Him, "I will give you all this domain and its glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. Therefore if You worship before me, it shall all be Yours." Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.'"

And he led Him to Jerusalem and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, "If you are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here; for it is written, 'He will command His angels concerning You to guard You,' and 'On their hands they will bear You up, so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.'"

And Jesus answered and said to him, "It is said, 'You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.'"

When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Him until an opportune time.

Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light to my path.

About the Song

The girls are taught the Bible very thoroughly. In addition to their daily devotions and interactions with the staff who disciple them, there are many teams who come in to do Bible camps and Vacation Bible School type programs throughout the year. The girls have a good knowledge of the Word of God and I trust that this will remain in their minds and hearts forever.

The lyrics to this song remind us to stand on the Word of God in all situations. We have our own daily issues, but as I've shared previously, these girls have major problems where they come from and have endured emotional and physical abuse.

Even so, our God is greater, bigger, and stronger than the sin that has hurt them! I want them to believe in the power of God, and the power of His Word. Pray for these girls to hide His Word in their hearts, and even as they grow up and move out of the hostel that they would always remember the truths they have learned.

About a Girl

Jazmin was always a very quiet girl who kept to herself, so I was very surprised when I first saw her get up to accompany some girls singing on the Indian Congo drums. This was always their only instrumental accompaniment, and she did a great job of keeping everyone together on the same beat. She was self-taught, as these girls have not had access to proper musical training until the training during the album production.

I knew I wanted to include Jazmin on this album, and you can hear her playing at the end of the track (starting at 3:19), accompanied by the guitar and a small group of singers. This is one of my favorite parts of the album and sounds so fresh because of the acoustic sound. She was very nervous but did such a great job!

Today Jazmin is working hard on her studies and preparing to begin grade 12. Her English is very good and she has a job doing clerical work with Disha Foundation. She prefers this meaningful and challenging work over the manual labor she is expected to do in her slum community when she is home. Her family is illiterate and uneducated. Pray for her family to accept that she wants more for her life, and that they will give her the blessing to continue her education and develop into the woman God wants her to be.
